Magdalena Plebanski is an immunologist and researcher. She is currently a Distinguished Professor at RMIT University and adjunct Professor Monash University in Australia. Her work focuses on developing vaccines and treatments for complex diseases like malaria and cancer. She has also pioneered the use of synthetic nanoparticles in vaccines. Her current recent discoveries further include practical diagnostic and prognostic ovarian cancer biomarkers and point of care devices. Her work is showcased in over 240 full-lenght publications, including many top broad readership journals, and her around 40 patents in 10 patent families have underpinned the formation of biotechnology companies and large scale Phase II clinical trials. In 2022 she received the Distinguished Mexican award for her global impact.
